Acting NNSA Administrator Teresa Robbins Tours KCNSC New Mexico Operations

Teresa Robbins, Department of Energy Acting Under Secretary of Energy for Nuclear Security and Administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), visited Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) New Mexico Operations (NMO) in early July.
“The men and women at KCNSC New Mexico Operations are doing incredible work,” said Robbins. “This team supports many different aspects of our mission and are critical to our success.”
Robbins and NNSA Kansas City Field Office Acting Manager Shekita Robinson toured facilities both on and off Kirtland Air Force Base and met with employees from across the site to see firsthand the missions and operations NMO supports. The tour included an inside look at a Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST) helicopter that is used for radiological surveys and incident response.
“NMO plays a unique role within the NNSA, and we were excited to showcase the expertise that goes into our important national security mission,” said Director of NMO Site Operations Jeff Conner.
Following the site tour, Robbins complimented the dozens of employees who shared NMO’s areas of expertise, emphasizing that she understands and appreciates NMO’s unique challenges and opportunities. NMO’s primary missions include:
• Secure Transportation: NMO refurbishes and repairs a fleet of Safeguards Transporter (SGT) semi-trailers to safely transport materials for the NNSA and Department of Defense (DOD)
• Global Security: NMO is an essential part of preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons worldwide.
• Advanced Manufacturing and Prototyping: NMO supports early collaboration to our design agency partners to enable increased capacity for the early development and manufacturing of non-nuclear components for evolving weapons design.
